Reduced food rations for soldiers, salary adjustment amongst concerns raised by UDP Shadow Cabinet in Belize Defence Force and Judiciary

By Aaron Humes: The United Democratic Party (UDP)’s Shadow Cabinet meeting this week touched on several concerns with the administration of security and justice and the welfare of those in charge of key departments therein.

With regard to the Belize Defence Force (BDF), the party charges that the Government has “reduced” food rations to soldiers and promises to correct this.

It goes on to claim retiree soldiers are suggesting the Government is refusing to grant their salary adjustment as approved by the Dean Barrow administration and that they have been waiting up to 14 months for those funds.

The UDP says this delay is having a devastating impact with regard to the cost of living, and again pledged to correct the problem if next elected.

Finally, the Shadow Cabinet calls for greater scrutiny and management of the late-birth registration program by international agencies such as UNICEF, to ensure that there is no fraud and chance for “fraudulent nationality to be procured by non-Belizeans.”
