Oasis camp site hit by armed robbers

By Aaron Humes: The owner of the Oasis Camp Site at Mile 31 along the Hummingbird Highway; one of his workers, and two tourists from England who were visiting reported being robbed early this morning, Tuesday, according to a police report.

35-year-old American Robert Speckman told police that around 12:30 a.m. he was confronted by six individuals in camouflage clothing and armed with at least one firearm and several machetes, as well as headlights and flashlights. They tied up Speckman, his worker Ronaldo Castellanos, and the tourists and ransacked their tents.

$9,960 worth of valuables including cell phones, cameras, and electronic equipment were taken as well as Speckman’s Lifan motorcycle.

Police are currently investigating.
