Rupert Codd accused of resisting arrest and damage to property in sexual assault arrest

By Aaron Humes: Rupert Calwin Codd, 23, faces additional charges stemming from a sexual assault case where a woman accused him of attacking her near Save-U Taxi stand.

Codd, a resident of Mile 4, Phillip Goldson Highway, Belize City, has been further charged with damage to property for allegedly causing $440 in damages to a quarter panel for a grey Police mobile and resisting arrest.

In court, Codd pleaded not guilty and was offered bail of $1,000 plus one surety of the same amount. However, he had been remanded in early January for the offense of sexual assault and so with no bail for that charge, Codd was remanded back to prison until February 19, 2024.

Police officers at a vehicle checkpoint on January 7 were informed by a taxi operator of a female passenger in shock who reported being sexually assaulted near the taxi stand at the Belcan Flag Monument Roundabout.

The victim accompanied police to the area and spotted her alleged attacker near A&R Store on the Phillip Goldson Highway. Police say they approached the man, later identified as Codd, and shouted, “Police, stop,” twice, only for him to run away from them into the Uno Gas Station compound and try to jump over the fence.

He was grabbed and subdued by three police officers and alleged to have a strong aroma of alcohol on his breath.

While Codd was being placed in the pan of the police mobile, he continued to struggle with police and that’s when police say he kicked the left rear passenger side panel leaving a dent on it.

Codd was out on bail for a rape charge dating back to 2002 and also owes the court fines relating to a robbery conviction.
