Wesley College blast Pallotti High School 8-1 in Central Secondary Schools Sports Association Football Competition semifinals

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Second seeded Wesley bombed fourth seeded Pallotti High School 8-1 in the first leg of the semifinals of the Central Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) Football Competition on Thursday at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City.

In the first round of the tournament, Pallotti put up a fight losing 5-3, but on Thursday they buckled against the Wesley juggernaut led by Kasmiere Mena who tallied an amazing five goals scoring in the 17’, 36’, 61’, 67, and 70’. Zariah Gentle added a brace scoring in the 13’ and 34’. Clayian Swazo converted the other goal in the 39’.

Jasha Bernardez, who scored a hat trick in their first encounter, netted Pallotti’s only goal in the 74’ to save her team from being zipped.

The return match is scheduled for 11:00 am on Saturday at the Marion Jones.

In the other semifinal, Gwen Lizarraga High School beat St Catherine Academy 6-2.

In the Boys Championship semifinals, Gwen Lizarraga High School blanked Sadie Vernon 7-0 on Wednesday while Wesley College and St John’s College drew 1-1 on Thursday.

All return legs play on Saturday starting at 9:00 am at the Marion Jones (See schedule below).

Should any of the series end up in a tie, extra-time and penalty-kick shootouts will determine the winners on Saturday.  Judging from the results in the first leg, only Wesley-SJC may need an extension.

The Finals and Third Place games will be played next week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday.
