By Aaron Humes: Shane Bennett was sentenced to a minimum of 25 years to life imprisonment on a murder conviction by High Court Justice Antoinette Moore.
Justice Moore ordered that Bennett’s life sentence is to take effect from Wednesday, February 7, with only a deduction for the 3 years he has been on remand.
Justice Moore found Bennett guilty of the murder of Anthony Raymond Parks in January 2020 in February of 2022 after a trial by judge without jury.
Parks was coldly shot and fatally wounded after an altercation with Bennett in his yard on January 22, 2020, in Independence Village, Stann Creek District, but succumbed to his injuries 11 days later, on February 2, 2020.
When he appeared for sentencing on April 26, 2022, Bennett fled the courthouse in Punta Gorda Town. He was recaptured shortly after.
