By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize City Defenders dominated the Belmopan Trojans 113-91 on the road at the UB Gymnasium in Belmopan on Saturday night.
The Defenders had a balanced attack with five players scoring in double figures. Lorenzo Dillard led the way with 21 points, eight assists, and four rebounds. Nigel Jones posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, along with four assists. Richard Smith III had 15 points and nine rebounds. John Kelly recorded 14 points and five rebounds and Devin Daly chipped in 13 points and four rebounds.
The Trojans were led by Jeremiah Toney, who had 23 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Jayden Lopez contributed 16 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Dane Bradley added 13 points and three rebounds.
The Defenders improved their record to 2-0, while the Trojans fell to 1-1.
On Friday, the defending champions Benny’s Belize Hurricanes also improved their record to 2-0 with an 89-71 victory over the Orange Walk Running Rebels at the Belize City Civic Center. The Running Rebels dropped to 1-1.
The game between the Griga Dream Ballers and the Western Ballaz that was scheduled to be played in Dangriga was postponed.
