Cold front brings “together weather” for Valentine’s Day/Ash Wednesday

Posted: Sunday, February 11, 2024. 9:49 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: The National Meteorological Service forecasts that on Monday night, a cold front approaches the area, bringing a few showers with light rain or isolated thunderstorms mainly over central and northern areas.

The cold front is expected to last through Thursday, meaning temperatures will be cooler than usual on Wednesday, February 14, which will be both Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday.
The extended forecast through Thursday is as follows: on Tuesday, cool temperatures with a few showers along the coast, northerly to northwesterly winds and temperatures around 80 degrees in the daytime and 72 degrees at night; on Wednesday, a few showers and periods of rain and continued cool temperatures; and on Thursday, a few showers and light rain, decreasing by nightfall, and near-normal temperatures for this time of year.

But that’s in the future, and over the next 24 hours, skies will be mostly sunny and partly cloudy tonight. Little or no rain will develop.

Today’s temperatures will be 86 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast; 91 degrees in inland areas; and 81 degrees in the hills. Tonight’s low temperatures will be 77 degrees along the coast, 68 degrees inland and 62 degrees in the hills.

Winds will be easterly to southeasterly at 10 to 20 knots with higher gusts, and sea state is moderate approaching rough. A small craft caution is in effect and operators of small crafts should continue to exercise caution.

During last week’s cold front which swept through Belize for most of the week, the lowest temperature was recorded in the mountains with 50.9 degrees Fahrenheit at Baldy Beacon and near SIRDI in Orange Walk with 51.4 degrees Fahrenheit. The February 7 daily record was broken at Baldy Beacon, but it is not the lowest temperature recorded for the month of February at the station with the lowest being 45 degrees in 2006. The national low temperature record of 38 degrees at Punta Gorda Town decades ago was never threatened.
