Premier League of Belize: Port Layola beat Progresso 2-0, regain 3rd place

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Port Layola blanked Progresso 2-0 in Week 5 of the Premier League of Belize 2023-24 Closing Championship at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk on Saturday.

With the victory, Port regained the third spot they had lost on Friday night when Altitude beat the Belmopan Bandits 4-1 in the Capital.

Leocadio Briceño scored the opener in the ninth minute to put the Belize City side up 1-0. Latrell Middleton converted the second goal in the 70^th minute for the final 2-0 victory.

Port Layola now has nine points from five games while Progresso remains in fifth place with four points.

Also on Saturday, Benque Viejo United beat Wagiya 3-1 at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen.

In the only remaining Week 5 game, leaders Verdes aim to maintain their lead when they play against Police Benque at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio on Sunday at 4:00 pm.
