By Aaron Humes: A Ladyville resident is behind bars after a woman made two separate reports against him stemming from two misunderstandings, one involving the alleged use of a firearm.

28-year-old Akeem Ferguson, a construction worker of Joe Lewis Street, Ladyville, appeared unrepresented before the Chief Magistrate, Jayani Wegodapola, where he was read two criminal offenses, one count of common assault and one count of aggravated assault with a firearm upon a woman from Ladyville.

Allegations are that on January 26, Akeem Ferguson allegedly punched his accuser in her face during a misunderstanding and further allegedly threatened to kill her and others. It is further alleged that Ferguson, on Monday, February 12, assaulted her by pointing a firearm at her during an exchange of words.

In court, Ferguson pleaded not guilty to both charges and due to the nature of the offense, where a gun is alleged to have been used, there was no offer for bail and Ferguson was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until March 18, 2024.
