“Injustice” – Former policeman Darrell Usher still waiting for gun and ammunition case to proceed in court

Posted: Saturday, February 17, 2024. 8:08 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Darrell “Tutsi” Usher, former police officer and son of Minister of State Gilroy Usher Sr, is still waiting for the courts to determine his guilt or innocence on a charge of keeping a firearm and ammunition without a gun license.

Two years after the charges were first laid in October of 2021, another adjournment was granted which the court promised would be the last one.

On Friday morning, Usher appeared with attorney Richard “Dickie” Bradley but Head of Prosecution Branch Alifah Elrington was absent and reported to be on sick leave.

The prosecutor who stood in for her explained to the court that Usher is too well known to the police prosecutors working Prosecution Branch and so Elrington, a civilian, would take on the prosecution herself.

The matter was called again in the afternoon and Bradley was absent this time, off dealing with another matter.

Usher addressed the court, explaining that apart from the inconvenience of multiple adjournments, the Prosecution still has yet to submit its submissions now overdue for the case.

The court says the case will be heard on March 23 and 24.
