By Horace Palacio: A Sunday afternoon argument in Belama Phase 2, Belize City, escalated into violence, leaving one man injured. The incident occurred near Guan Fa Chinese Grocery Store on Albert Hoy Street around 2:50 pm.
39-year-old Reno Castillo reportedly became involved in a heated exchange with the grocery store owner. The situation intensified when the owner’s nephew, 29-year-old Wenjing Lie, allegedly fired a single shot from a licensed firearm, striking Castillo.
Castillo was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) by Belize Emergency Response Team (BERT) ambulance and is currently listed in stable condition.
While initial investigations have seen Lie questioned and the firearm secured, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Northside Crime Investigation Branch personnel are actively investigating the incident.
