PM Briceno: Boledo lottery revenue projected to soar past $70 million in 2024

Posted: Sunday, February 18, 2024. 9:49 am CST.

By Horace Palacio: Prime Minister John Briceno expressed optimism about the country’s Boledo lottery, projecting annual revenue to exceed $70 million in 2024. This represents a significant increase compared to previous years, with reports indicating figures around $18 million and $30 million.

“From what I’ve seen, we are going to exceed over 70 million dollars in sales in one year,” said Briceno, acknowledging he lacked the latest official figures. He contrasted this with past performance, stating, “If you remember previously they were reporting 18 million and 19 and 30 million.”

The increased revenue is expected to contribute positively to the National Health Insurance (NHI) program, a key government initiative. Briceno outlined the allocation process: “At the end of the financial year, the money will be allocated as we said to the public. We discussed in the cabinet that most of the money we want to put into the national health insurance, the charities program, and some for sports is okay.”

However, the reliance on gambling revenue for social programs also raises concerns within some sectors. Critics argue for diversifying revenue streams and addressing potential ethical implications associated with gambling.

While official confirmation of the projected figures awaits, Briceno’s statement reflects growing confidence in the Boledo lottery’s performance and its potential contribution to government initiatives.
