By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Football Federation of Belize closed the  1st Qatar-funded Concacaf’s Generation Amazing Program at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan last Thursday, February 15.

“The program seeks to teach social values and technical skills to children within the selected primary schools throughout the Caribbean region,”  told Breaking Belize News.

Marin said the FFB selected 25 schools and each school in turn selected 25 children for a total of 625 children to join the Generation Amazing program which started three months ago and closed with two festivals; one in Dangriga and the other in Belmopan.

The Dangriga Festival which was held on Wednesday, February 14, was for the Southern and Western schools, while the one in Belmopan was for Northern and Central schools.

“The program is a collaboration between Concacaf, the  Football Federation of Belize and the Qatar Football Federation,” Marin said.

“The program is a legacy of the 2022 Qatar World Cup. It is a proposal that the Qatar FA wrote to bid for the World Cup. That was one of their promises; that after the World Cup, they would contribute to the development of the other confederations by providing programs like the Generation Amazing program.

Marin said the Generation Amazing is a six week football training program which concludes with a festival.

“We concluded the program on Thursday,” Marin said.

“Before the program started we had to do capacity building for the coaches. So, it started about three months ago.”

The next program, which will kick off at the beginning of the upcoming school year in September, should reach 875 children; the 625 who took part in the first program plus 250 more.

“We’re going to do another program for the kids and the coaches and we will increase the number to 35 schools,” Marin said.
