By Aaron Humes: Three weeks ago, Director of Public Prosecutions Cheryl-Lynn Vidal made it emphatically clear to reporters that she had not made any decision about charging a prominent attorney accused of rape: “Who has made that decision? Because I am very sure I am the person who is supposed to make that decision and I have not made any such decision.”
She further explained that she had met with the complainant and more evidence was being gathered and concluded, “…we’re still actively considering the matter.”
A decision on charges has still to be made and today the Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said that it remains entirely in her very capable hands: “The DPP is a very meticulous person. I must say she is an extremely good attorney and an exceptional advocate. She is the type who wants to make sure that when she draws bows there is sufficient and so I know that she has met with the investigators and [given] them certain instructions to carry out and she is looking at the file very carefully. I know she was extremely occupied with the Oscar Selgado matter. That now awaits a decision from the trial judge. Just give her some time. I personally went through the file and it is complex. It is not a straightforward case. So, she needs to make sure she has her ducks in a row before making any decision where that matter is concerned.”
There is no statute of limitations to our knowledge on charges being filed and prosecuted.
