By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes FC said they are pleased with the turnout by teenage footballers for the International Talent Identification Camp, the club organized in close collaboration with the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) and Italian Club Digiesse Praia Tortora. The three-day camp got underway on Tuesday and closes on Thursday.
“[On Tuesday] Verdes FC and Club Digiesse Praia Tortora were pleased with the turn-out and seriousness of the youths that joined the rolling out of the Talent Scouting Program,” Verdes said in a social media post on Wednesday.
“We appreciate the collaboration and critical support being provided by the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) as we nurture young and future footballers for our national teams.”
According to the FFB, 55 young footballers aged 14-16, including youth national team players, were called to the camp which is being conducted by Italian coaches affiliated with Club Digiesse Praia Tortora.
“They will be engaged in a three-day training camp at the Football Federation of Belize. After the three days the Digiesse Praia Tortora coaches will select three to five players that are outstanding. They will do one-month training in Rome, Italy in July and August,” FFB Technical Director Philip Marin told Breaking Belize News.
Early in January, Verdes signed a collaboration agreement with the Italian Club which seeks to conduct scouting and sports clinics in Belize every six months in search of talented Belizean players.
“The primary idea is to prepare, export and place the best youth talents of this country in Italy.” youth talent,” Verdes’ Mexican Sports Advisor Armando Urueña said when the agreement was signed with Brian Crespín, Digiesse Praia Tortora’s Head of Visualization and Recruitment, here in Belize.
Urueña added that the camps will seek “to promote the growth of Belizean soccer, by [providing] an enabling environment where young players (youths) will be given the opportunity to improve their tactical and technical skills under the stewardship of highly skilled professional trainers in Italy.”
“Today marked the start of a new journey for some young Belizean boys,” the FFB said in a social media post on Tuesday.
