Premier League of Belize: Verdes edge Benque Viejo United 1-0

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes defeated Benque Viejo United 1-0 at the packed Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen on Saturday night in Week 7 of the Premier League of Belize 2023-24 Closing Championship and increased their lead atop the standings.

Argentine Camilo Villarreal converted the only goal in the 40’ to give Verdes the 1-0 win.

The Green Machine now total 21 points from seven games and lead Port Layola by six points.

Their second consecutive loss cost Benque Viejo United second place. They now find themselves in the third position with 13 points. Last week they fell 1-0 to Port Layola.

In the other weekend games, Port Layola beat the Belmopan Bandits 3-1 at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan while Progresso and Police Benque drew 0-0.

The match between Wagiya and Altitude was postponed.
