Corozal gets tourism boost with Chactemal Bayside Plaza groundbreaking

By Horace Palacio: In a collaborative effort, the Belize Tourism Board (BTB), the Corozal Town Council, and Elvia Samos, Minister of State in the Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous People’s Affairs, and Corozal Bay Area Representative, officially broke ground today on the Chactemal Bayside Plaza. This waterfront revitalization project promises to transform Corozal Town.

Located on the scenic Corozal Bay, the Plaza will feature a vibrant mix of amenities: food kiosks, an artisan corner, entertainment and dining spaces, restrooms, a playground, a pier, art displays, park benches, a swimming area, and green space. This comprehensive design aims to boost community engagement, tourism, and economic growth.

The Bayside Plaza’s strategic location offers stunning views and opportunities for recreation. Visitors can stroll along walkways, explore via the pier, or enjoy the nearby archaeological site of Cerros. The project also plans cultural events and presentations, making it a social interaction hub and celebrating the region’s rich history.
