By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man with a long rap sheet has been remanded to prison for allegedly stealing a $4,000 bicycle but outstanding fines landed him in jail.

Eugene Lanza, 40, appeared in court unrepresented on Tuesday and was read a charge of theft. He was remanded to prison and denied bail after it was discovered he Owen several outstanding fines for previous crimes of a serious nature.

According to reports, on February 23, the owner of the bike visited a restaurant on Mahogany Street and left the bike outside. When he returned, the bike was gone and surveillance footage allegedly showed Lanza taking the bike. Before leaving court, Lanza asked the court to serve all his outstanding fines in prison time so that warrant was prepared and sent.
