By Breaking Belize News Staff: Brandon Gillett, a municipal court bailiff who was arrested on a number of firearm charges, was back in court today.
Gillett, in the presence of his attorney, asked the court for an indication if he gave a guilty verdict and was informed that the minimum sentence is five years but under the Act, the magistrate can use her discretion and because he is a first-time offender with no prior convictions, he can be sentenced for one year in prison.
Upon hearing this, Gillett decided to plead not guilty and proceed with the matter to trial. His case was adjourned until April 30, when he is expected to receive disclosure for the case.
According to reports, on December 21, a search warrant was executed for his Los Lagos home where police found a Glock pistol and a .223 rifle, which he did not have any licenses for.
