By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Under 20 Belize Men’s National Team (U20 BMNT) lost their third match in the Concacaf Under-20 Championship Qualifiers on Thursday. The U20 BMNT fell 1-0 to Cuba at the Estadio Nacional de Nicaragua in Managua in Group A action. Cuba’s Aniel Casanova scored the only goal of the match in the 12’.
Earlier Belize lost 6-0 to Nicaragua on Sunday, February 25, and 4-3 to British Virgin Islands (BVI) on Tuesday.
Also on Thursday, the British Virgin Islands gained their second victory defeating Anguilla 3-1 final with Anguilla. Azarni Callwood led BVI with a hat-trick (18’, 23’, 89’) while Jared Smeins (28’) converted for Anguilla.
Jaheim Mena, Isaac Taeger, and Felix Martinez scored for Belize in the match against BVI.
Belize will close their participation in Group A against Anguilla on Saturday, March 2 at 4:00 pm. Nicaragua and Cuba will face off at 7:00 pm to determine who wins the group and advances to the Concacaf Under-20 Championship.
Nicaragua and Cuba lead the competition with nine points apiece though Nicaragua have the edge on goal difference: +19 to +15. British Virgin Islands follow in third place with six points.
Belize and Anguilla don’t have any points. Belize sit in third place with a -8 goal difference while Anguilla occupy the fifth berth with a -20 goal difference.
