Zero Discrimination Day recognized globally

Posted: Friday, March 1, 2024. 2:43 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today is being recognized as Zero Discrimination Day.

Zero Discrimination Day is an annual event observed on March 1st and promoted by UNAIDS, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS.

The day aims to raise awareness about the importance of eliminating discrimination in all its forms and promoting equality worldwide, particularly concerning people living with HIV/AIDS.

The initiative underscores the principles of tolerance, inclusion, and diversity, advocating for a world where every individual, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, or health status, is treated with dignity and respect.

Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children Rossana Briceno encouraged leaders to take action against discrimination.

“Zero Discrimination Day serves as a platform for individuals, communities, organizations, and governments to take action against discrimination and challenge societal norms and practices that perpetuate inequality and exclusion. It encourages people to stand up against discrimination in their everyday lives and to promote acceptance, understanding, and compassion,” the Special Envoy noted.
