By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Veterinarians from the entire Caribbean are meeting in Belize for four days starting on Monday for the 33rd biennial Caribbean Veterinary Medical Association (CbVMA) at the San Ignacio Hotel in San Ignacio.

Though this is the 33rd biennial Medical Conference, Belize is holding it for the first time.

The conference, being held under the theme One Health, One Caribbean, One Future: Veterinary solution towards a sustainable tomorrow, starts with a gala on Monday night and runs until Thursday, March 7.

“The officials are already in. We’re getting ready for the Gala at the Welcome Center, [Tuesday] the formal presentations begin,” Dr Ludwig Palacio, the President Elect of the CbVMA.

“Our theme is basically the promoting of One Health. In other words we have to ensure that animals and the human connect is taken into consideration. That is going to be very important, that we have one health, meaning that the health of animals and the health of people are connected. That’s the central idea.

Belizean Dr Palacio is currently the Vice President of the Belize Veterinary Association and the Regional Representative of the Commonwealth Veterinary Association.

He will serve as the new CbVMA President for the next two years.

Dr Palacio said that the CbVMA conference will have approximately 20 presenters.
