By Aaron Humes: A motorcycle was badly damaged earlier on Monday morning in Hattieville when, police suspect, someone deliberately set it on fire.
According to Benevictor Max, 32, of Ysaguirre Boulevard, Hattieville, Belize District, he came home around 9:30 Sunday night, parked his 1999 red Honda Rebel motorcycle valued at $5,000 under his elevated wooden house, and went to sleep.
Around 1:45 in the morning, he was awakened by the smell of smoke from under his house, resembling plastic burning. Investigating, he found the motorcycle on fire and began dousing it with water to avoid it spreading to the house and called the police.
Damage was limited to the back tire, leather seat, plastic covering of the engine, cycle handle, and a nearby Hotpoint washing machine valued at $800.
Police and Fire Service investigations continue.
