Belize City man is latest shooting victim

By Aaron Humes: A Belize City man is in hospital after being shot just after midnight this morning, Tuesday.

Shane Marin, a boat captain of Belama Phase 4, Belize City, was found with a gunshot wound to the left upper back around 12:23 in the morning. He was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and treated.

Initial investigation revealed that on Sunday at about 11:45 pm, Shane Marin, Angel Matura, 35, and his brother Roman Matura, 32, were socializing inside. Angel Matura went outside to smoke a cigarette on the verandah when a clear-skinned man wearing a green shirt with a white and black cloth covering his mouth and nose came out from under the verandah and pointed an object resembling a firearm at him.

Angel Matura ran inside, alerting Shane Marin and Roman Matura. The gunman tried to enter the house but was unsuccessful. He pushed his hands inside through an open window and fired several shots which caught Shane Marin who was standing behind the door causing his injuries. The gunman then jumped over the verandah, escaping.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
