Attorney Orson Elrington charged with rape; out on bail

By Aaron Humes: Following the directive of the Director of Public Prosecutions Cheryl-Lynn Vidal, attorney at law Orson Elrington has been charged by Police with the rape of two women at his home in Belize City in January.

Around noon, he attended Magistrate’s Court on Coney Drive in the company of his father Senior Counsel Hubert Elrington and representative Norman Rodriguez. However, he was ordered to be taken to Queen Street Police Station by CIB police and then brought back to court.

After the charge was read, bail was granted in the sum of $8,000 plus one surety of the same amount or two sureties of $4,000 each with some stringent conditions including no contact with the victims and so on.

The women reported to police that after a night out they accompanied Elrington to his house and consumed alcoholic drinks, then woke up the following morning.

There was some delay in bringing the charges owing to procedural and scheduling issues between the DPP and Police, but both assured that they were taking the investigation very seriously and had spoken directly to the complainant victims.
