PM Briceno expresses disappointment over Cayo Election results

Posted: Saturday, March 9, 2024. 2:16 pm CST.

By Horace Palacio: Prime Minister John Briceno has publicly expressed his disappointment with the recent election outcomes in the municipality of San Ignacio/Santa Elena. The Prime Minister believes his party had a strong team in place, particularly noting the candidacy of Matthew Preston, but ultimately the results were not as expected.

The Prime Minister views this outcome as a “chance to look in the mirror” and identify areas for improvement. He specifically mentioned Cayo North representative, Michel Chebat, and Cayo North East representative, Orlando Habet, suggesting the results could be “a subtle message” from voters that these ministers may need to focus more effort on their respective constituencies.

PM Briceno emphasized the importance for all ministers to prioritize their duties as area representatives, a statement likely resonating deeply with both Chebat and Habet. He framed the setback as a timely opportunity to make changes rather than risk similar dissatisfaction from constituents in the lead-up to the next general election.
