Prime Minister says, “One party, One family” in response to allegations from Elvia Samos

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On March 16, 2024, Corozal Bay Area Representative Elvia Vega Samos issued a statement calling out members of her own party, the PUP for allegedly assaulting her and her family.

“I was openly assaulted by an individual and my husband’s life was threatened. This was done by “individuals from my own party who are desperate for power.” It is unfortunate that my children had to experience this,” Vega Samos said.

However, Corozal resident Adan Herrera has since issued a statement refuting Vega-Samos claims and accusing the Corozal Bay Area Representative and her husband of “bullying and intimidation”.

Since police reports were reportedly made, the Commissioner of Police confirmed that the police is looking into this matter.

Prime Minister John Briceño has indicated that he is aware of the situation in Corozal Bay and called on both sides to basically iron it out peacefully.

“I think success brings its own problems and, you know, people are getting very excited about wanting to represent which is not necessarily a bad thing. But it’s unfortunate that we have this kind of behavior from both sides. I believe that we are one party, one family and if we have any problems we should try to work it out internally and not outside,” the Prime Minister said.

PM Briceño indicated that the Chairman of the PUP is also looking into the matter and will attempt to calm things down to be able to move forward.
