Police raided Porto Stuck Island and found lots of drugs – Belize City man charged

Posted: Tuesday, April 2, 2024. 10:13 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Antelope Street resident Egbert Davis avoided being jailed for the Easter Holidays on Thursday after being charged with five counts of possession of controlled drugs following a raid on an island off the coast.

Davis, represented by Leeroy Banner, pleaded not guilty to all five offenses with which he was charged: separate possession of 125 grams of cocaine, 56 grams of crack cocaine, 115 grams of crack cocaine, 113 grams of marijuana, and 57 grams of marijuana on March 27, 2024, at Porto Stuck Island.

While there was no objection to bail being granted to Davis, his attorney informed the court that his client has alleged police brutality while in custody.

According to Banner, Davis said he was physically assaulted by a Police officer while detained and stomped on his back and his groin area while being interrogated. According to Davis, the police were questioning him about the whereabouts of two or more men who police had listed on the charge sheet.

Bail for $7,000 plus one surety or two sureties of $3,500 each was offered to Davis, which he met. He also had to pay $900 toward an old bill with the court and the remainder is due by April 30. He is due back in court on the drug charges on May 31.

Police are looking for two other men known to them in connection with the bust.
