Teakettle man confirmed dead in workplace accident at Santander

By Aaron Humes: The Santander Sugar Factory has confirmed an “unfortunate incident” at its Valley of Peace compound on Saturday.

34-year-old Khalil Hewlett, of Teakettle Village, Cayo District, is reported to have suffered fatal injuries to his face, head, and left leg while working at the facility.

A family member says the company has taken responsibility, but details about Hewlett’s accident have not yet been released.

Hewlett had been working at Santander for the last five years and was reported dead around 10 a.m. Saturday. Police were called to the area and an investigation is underway.
