By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belizean cyclist Carlton Robinson completed the 2nd Vuelta Maya 2024 in third place in the General Classification winning the first two stages held on Friday and Saturday in and around Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico.

In total, Belizean riders gained three spots in the Top 10 with Edgar Nissan Arana, riding for Mexican team SKY, finishing fifth and Santino’s Belize’s Joslyn Chavarria placing ninth.

Robinson was timed at 5:29:01, two minutes and 50 seconds seconds behind overall winner Alan Carrillo Ávila of team Zorros of Yucatán, who clocked 5:26:11. Robinson was leading by 22 seconds after the second stage but fell behind Carrillo and second-place Manuel Serrano of team SKY, who finished 36 seconds behind Carrillo, at the completion of the Stage 3 Individual Time Trial. Both Mexicans rode a superb 22-kilometre (13.75 miles) time trial turning the tables on Robinson, who rode a formidable tour dominating the first two road stages. Carrillo stopped the clock at 29:29, Serrano at 30:28, while Robinson was timed at 33:08 in the Individual Time Trial on Sunday.

Arana, who was third in the first two stages, dropped to fifth place overall after the time trial, finishing in 5:29:25, the same time as his fourth-place SKY teammate Raúl Romero. Both were three minutes and 14 seconds behind Carrillo. Arana rode the time trial in 33:10.
