By Aaron Humes: A father and his two sons are out on bail after being charged in connection with an apparent burglary in the yard where they are presently living.

Jordan Ferguson, 22, and his older sibling 24-year-old Monroe Ferguson Jr., were respectively arraigned on charges of burglary (Jordan) and assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest (both).

Allegations are that on and between Saturday, March 30 and Tuesday, April 2, Jordan Ferguson entered as a trespasser, the home of Mia Gilharry at East Collet Canal and stole various items valued at $1,145.

However no plea was taken as the Proseuctor asked that an evaluation be done first on Jordan to determine whether or not he is fit to stand trial and if a plea could be taken from him at a later date. It is claimed that he has been suffering with mental illness for the past two years.

Jordan was granted bail of $800 plus one surety of the same amount.

Monroe Ferguson Jr. pleaded guilty to resisting arrest but since he denied assaulting the officer, the Magistrate could not accept the plea and so he too was offered bail of $800 plus one surety of the same amount.

Monroe Anthony Ferguson Sr., 49, a Security Guard at Benny’s and resident of East Collet Canal, Belize City, was read a single charge of assaulting a police officer to which he pleaded not guilty. He was also granted bail of $1,000 plus one surety of the same amount. His case was adjourned for May 22 when he is expected to be provided with disclosure.

Police received the report of the burglary on Sunday morning, March 31, and detained the brothers. They also charged Kareem Flowers of Vernon Street with handling stolen goods after some of the items were recovered from his residence.
