Strong thunderstorm watch issued as weak cold front begins to move across Belize

Posted: Thursday, April 11, 2024. 8:58 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The National Meteorological Service is forecasting an unsettling end to the week weather-wise after high heat across the country earlier in the week.

Tonight, a strong thunderstorm watch has been issued for possible strong thunderstorms accompanied by strong damaging winds, intense lightning and excessive rainfall.

In the general forecast, a weak cold front just north of Belize will support a moderate increase in shower activity tonight. Skies tonight will be cloudy at times with a few showers or thunderstorms mainly over inland and northern areas at first, then over the coast later on. Friday morning dawns with partly cloudy skies and with a few showers over the coast in the morning with shower activity becoming isolated by afternoon.

The extended forecast begins with partly cloudy skies Friday night with isolated showers; then mostly cloudy on Saturday with a few showers over most areas.

Our thanks to forecaster Derrick Rudon at the Belize Weather Bureau, Ladyville.
