“False news” leads to charges for American national

By Aaron Humes: Joseph Anthony Camp, 39, American-born software developer living in Belize City, has been charged with spreading false news via social media in connection with the murder of Charles James on Thursday night.

Police allege that Camp wrote inter alia via Facebook that his brother-in-law had been shot by police and hospitalized and accused of being James’ killer, but that it was a case of mistaken identity and that he could prove it.

But Commissioner of Police Chester Williams denied the report in detail and Camp has now been arrested and charged.

Meanwhile, Jaylon Jones has been charged with the murder of James, a Coast Guard seaman who was at home having dinner when he was shot.
