By Breaking Belize News Staff: Maynor Rene Ancona, 41, a San Pedro resident has been charged with a number of offenses relating to a brawl which resulted in his common-law-wife, Jennifer Lynn Griffith’s death.

In court on Friday, Ancona was read several charges including manslaughter by negligence, disorderly conduct, two counts of harm, and one count of wounding. No plea was taken for four of the five counts against him with the exception of disorderly conduct, to which Ancona pleaded not guilty.

He was offered bail in the sum of $10,000 plus one surety of the same or two equivalent sureties. His bail was set with stringent conditions that he must periodically check in at a police station and surrender all travel documents.

According to police reports, on April 7 Ancona and Elmer Castro were involved in an altercation at a bar on northern San Pedro. During the ruckus, several people were injured including Griffith who was hit in her head with a conch shell which was allegedly thrown by Ancona. She died the next day from her injuries.
