International News: El Salvador offers 5,000 passports to skilled foreign workers

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On April 6, 2024, El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele announced that the country is offering 5,000 “free passports” to highly skilled workers from other countries.

Therefore, Scientists, engineers, doctors, artists, and philosophers will be granted “full citizen status” including voting rights.

In addition, the country will assist in their relocation by eliminating taxes and tariffs on “moving families and assets” such as equipment, software, and intellectual property.

Bukele noted that the group’s contributions would have a huge impact on the future of the Central American country.

Bukele has been widely hailed in his country for the crackdown on gangs and a transformation that has attracted thousands of tourists.
