Posted: Saturday, April 20, 2024. 8:44 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: A report by the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) said that over 2,500 people were killed or injured in gang violence.

The report noted that 590 were killed during police operations.

In addition, 438 kidnappings were reported as gang members continue to terrorize residents.

Gang members continued to perpetrate rapes against women and girls in rival neighborhoods, as well as in prisons and displacement camps, the report found.

Thousands of people have been displaced as the situation worsens.

The report repeated calls for faster deployment of the planned security mission.

It also called for updated sanctions, stronger efforts to block arms trafficking, secure routes to deliver key goods and rehabilitation programs for children recruited into gangs.
