By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, President of the Canaco, Chetumal Amir Padilla Espadas called on the Government of Belize to remove the travel warning issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Espadas said that the influx of Belizean visitors represents 30 percent of the town’s economic activity.

In addition, Espadas explained that the business community in Chetumal contacted their Government authorities to take measures.

Espadas urged that it is urgent for the Governments of Belize and Mexico to discuss and strategize.

Their main concern remains the alert since it will decrease the amount of Belizean visitors to Chetumal meaning less economic movement.

Due to the recent surge in violence, authorities in Chetumal, Mexico have bolstered their security presence.
