Fortis Belize: “All hands on deck” to address electricity shortfall

Posted: Friday, May 3, 2024. 3:23 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The managers of the three major hydroelectric dams along the Macal River, Fortis Belize, says it “has all hands on deck at the Mollejon, Chalillo and Vaca dams.”

While the country may be currently in the last of the dry season, Fortis notes that in this time of shortage, “water collected during the rainy season allows us to generate hydroelectricity at maximum capacity to send to the grid.”

With national capacity at 93 megawatts, Fortis claims that on Thursday it supplied nearly half that capacity and “will continue to generate as much electricity possible to meet energy needs.”
