Fortis Belize commits to generating as much electricity as possible to meet needs

Posted: Friday, May 3, 2024. 2:06 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On May 2, 2024, Fortis Belize issued a statement expressing its commitment to generating as much electricity as possible to meet needs.

“Fortis Belize has all hands-on deck at Mollejon, Chalillo and Vaca dams. The current supply shortage from Mexico occurring in the dry season makes us truly appreciate the Chalillo reservoir as water collected during the rainy season allows us to generate hydroelectricity at maximum capacity to send to the grid,” the company said.

Fortis Belize is the largest in-country supplier of electricity to BEL and noted that it supplied as much as 45% of the electricity demand.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to generate as much electricity as possible to meet energy needs,” the company said.
