Five of six districts to be affected by scheduled power outages today, Belize Electricity Limited announces

By Aaron Humes: Beginning this morning, parts of five of Belize’s six districts will be without power due to CFE-related issues according to Belize Electricity Limited (BEL).

Because CFE is doing upgrades on its transmission line in Quintana Roo to facilitate the Tren Maya project, it has had to ask BEL to disconnect entirely, not guaranteeing continuous supply because of the need to keep some power in reserve.

The round of blackouts begins in San Pedro at 9 a.m., covering Pescador Drive, Black Coral Street, Tarpon Street, Elliott Subdivision, San Pedrito, Airstrip area, Seagrape Drive, Blake Street, San Pablo area, San Marcos area, Escalante Subdivision, DFC area, and Eiley Subdivision. This will last until 1 p.m.

Affected from nine to noon will be Silk Grass, Hopkins, Sittee River, and surrounding areas in the Stann Creek District and San Antonio, Crique Jute, San Felipe, Santa Ana, Midway, Barranco, Laguna, Eldridge, Jacintoville, Cattle Landing, Forest Home, San Marcos, Dump Area, Big Falls, Yemeri Grove, Hicatee, Silver Creek, a portion of San Pedro Columbia, Mafredi, Blue Creek, Jordan, and Aguacate, all in the Toledo District.

From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., affected will be these villages in Orange Walk District: Caledonia, Buena Vista, San Pablo, San Juan, Douglas, San Jose, Juchim area, San Luis, San Lorenzo, San Roman, San Lorenzo, San Antonio, Santa Cruz, Yo Creek, San Lazaro, Trinidad, San Felipe Village, August Pine Ridge, San Felipe, Blue Creek, Linda Vista, London Community, Tres Leguas, and Cuatro Leguas.

The Belize and Cayo Districts will be affected in the afternoon hours between noon and 3 in a portion of Faber’s Road, Port Loyola area, Queen’s Square, Yarborough area, Banak Street and surrounding areas, a portion of Albert Street from Birds Isle to Cemetery Road and surrounding areas, West Collet Canal, a portion of East Collet Canal, a portion of Raccoon Street and surrounding areas. From 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., a portion of Western Paradise including Sunset Park, Western Pines, Tropical Park, Tropical Garden, Hattieville to Jih Chan Community including Gracie Rock, Freetown Sibun Rockville, Bainsville, Boom-Hattieville Road including Burrell Boom, Fresh Pond and Blackberry Estate, Ridge Lagoon, from Burrell Boom to Rancho Dolores and surrounding villages will be offline, as well as all areas along the Philip Goldson Highway from Courtenay Estate to Maskall, including Vista del Mar, Ladyville, Lord’s Bank, Lake Gardens, Sandhill, Gardenia, Biscayne, Rhaburn Ridge, Crooked Tree, St. Anne’s and Maskall.

In Cayo District during the same time, areas along the George Price Highway from Santa Elena to Esperanza, through to Unitedville, surrounding areas of Cristo Rey and San Antonio Road, Billy White, Baking Pot Road, Duck Run I, II, and Ill, Chiquibul Road from the junction of Georgeville to 7 Miles Progresso Village, BEL Kontiki Substation, and Trench Town area.

In the Stann Creek District, all areas along Independence Road, Cow Pen, San Juan, Red Bank, Santa Maria, George Town, Maya Mopan, San Roman, Mayan King, Santa Cruz, Mango Walk, Monkey River, Bella Vista, San Isidro, San Pablo Road, Swasey, Bladen, and Trio will be down.

Finally, all of Punta Gorda Town, Hopeville, Ex-Service-Men Road, Copal area, and a portion of Cattle Landing will be without power between 1 and 4 p.m.
