By Horace Palacio: The Belize landscape is currently experiencing a period of sustained hot and dry weather, according to the latest forecast from the National Meteorological Service. As of May 20th, 2024, a heat alert has been issued due to the expectation of continued high temperatures, particularly in inland regions.

Today, Belizeans can anticipate a mix of sunshine and cloud cover, transitioning to partly cloudy skies as night falls. While significant rainfall is not predicted, the forecast does include the possibility of isolated thunderstorms developing over the Maya Mountains during the afternoon.

Coastal areas will experience temperatures ranging from a comfortable 82°F (28°C) to a warm 90°F (32°C). However, inland regions are expected to face much more intense heat, with the mercury potentially reaching 99°F (37°C). The hills will offer some respite from the heat, with temperatures ranging between 72°F (22°C) and 82°F (28°C).

The marine forecast indicates east winds blowing at 10-15 knots, leading to moderate sea states with waves expected to reach heights of 4-6 feet.

Due to the anticipated high temperatures, especially inland, a heat advisory has been issued. Residents are strongly advised to prioritize hydration and minimize exposure to the sun, particularly during the hottest parts of the afternoon.

This pattern of hot and dry weather is predicted to persist through Tuesday and Tuesday night.
