By Breaking Belize News Staff: Doris Grant of Reggae Street, Belize City, was arraigned today on 40 counts of theft and deception, accused of swindling over $121,000 between January and July 2022. Grant, the common-law wife of alleged gang figure Alexander Underwood, appeared before Magistrate Lois Young and was represented by attorney Dickie Bradley.

Grant faced 14 counts of theft, 14 counts of obtaining property by deception, and 12 counts of obtaining money transfer by deception. She allegedly targeted multiple victims from whom she reportedly stole $31,500.

The Police Prosecutor did not object to bail but requested conditions, which were granted. Grant was released on $50,000 bail and must surrender her travel documents, report weekly to the police, and avoid prosecution witnesses. Her next court date is set for July 19, 2024.

Grant met bail at 5:15 p.m. and avoided media cameras as she left the court.
