By Breaking Belize News Staff: Kareem Hamilton, 37, of Jane Usher Boulevard, was denied bail and remanded on a kidnapping charge today. Hamilton appeared unrepresented before Chief Magistrate Jayani Wegodapola in Court #1, where he faced allegations of kidnapping a 5-year-old girl on May 16, 2024.
Hamilton is accused of using deception to take the child from her mother on Baracat Street. The child’s mother reported the incident to police, stating that Hamilton, claiming to be the girl’s uncle, took her while she was playing in the yard. Neighbors intervened and subdued Hamilton until police arrived. He arrived in court with a visibly bruised eye.
Due to the nature of the offense, no plea was taken, and Hamilton was remanded to Belize Central Prison until July 23, 2024. The prosecutor requested a psychiatric evaluation for Hamilton, citing concerns about his mental capacity.
