Prime Minister and NEMO Minister witness impact of devastating fires in Mountain Pine Ridge and Toledo

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On May 23, 2024, Prime Minister John Briceño and Minister for NEMO, Andre Perez accompanied by Area Representative Oscar Requena, Minister for Agriculture Jose Abelardo Mai and Captain Daniel Mendez – National Emergency Coordinator flew over the affected areas in Toledo and Mountain Pine Ridge.

“There’s no disputing climate change is real with undisputable adverse impacts. We’ve been experiencing a prolonged drought that has affected farming, daily community living and exacerbated forest fires,” the Prime Minister said.

“These devastating fires have claimed 60% of the affected Mt. Pine Ridge as well as impacting farms and crops in Toledo,” he added.

The Prime Minister urge citizens to take preventative action against starting fires in this extreme dry.
