By Breaking Belize News: The trial of Jamaal Jackson, charged with attempted robbery and grievous harm, began on Monday before Justice Candace Nanton. Initially, a jury of nine (six women and three men) was selected, but it was reduced to eight when a juror revealed she knew Jackson from their time working together at the Princess Hotel.

The juror informed the court of the conflict after realizing she couldn’t be impartial. Justice Nanton dismissed her at 10:46 a.m. and, with Jackson’s consent, the trial will proceed with the remaining eight jurors. Proceedings will continue on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. Jackson, out on bail, is being prosecuted by Crown Counsel Porsha Staine-Ferguson.

The charges stem from a 2016 attempted robbery at Scotia Bank’s Albert Street branch, where police intervention led to a shootout, injuring PC Shania Caliz.
