Denfield Lemott denied bail on burglary charge

By Breaking Belize News Staff:  Denfield Lemott, 46, of Raccoon Street, was denied bail on Tuesday after being arraigned on a burglary charge at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court. Lemott, previously convicted of similar offenses, faced Magistrate Lois Young in Court #4.

Lemott is accused of breaking into a home on May 17, 2024, and stealing items worth $2,520, including cash and Brazilian gold jewelry. The burglary was captured on surveillance footage, strengthening the prosecution’s case.

Prosecutor Cpl. Castillo opposed bail, citing Lemott’s criminal history, which includes multiple convictions for burglary and theft. Despite Lemott’s attorney, Simeon Sampson, not contesting the records, Magistrate Young decided to remand Lemott until a date is set for his official attorney, Rowell Gonzalez, to make bail submissions.

Lemott expressed disappointment, noting he had stayed out of jail for the past six to seven years. If convicted, he faces a minimum of seven years in prison due to his prior offenses.
