Weather experts say “Hazy conditions” continue in most of Central America due to fires

Posted: Wednesday, May 29, 2024. 4:55 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Weather experts at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) noted that hazy conditions due to agricultural fires in Mexico and Central America persist across most of the western Gulf, including the Bay of Campeche.

Observation sites along the Bay of Campeche and western Gulf continue to report visibilities at 3 nm of less.

Fires continue to rage in Mexico and Belize and firefighters and conservationists continue to battle the wildfires.

In Southern Belize, rangers of the Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE) and volunteers continue to battle fires that are threatening many farms.

Meanwhile, in Western Belize, the villagers of San Antonio, Cayo are inside the Elijio Panti National park battling fires for more than 10 days now.

NEMO and the Belize Forest Department among others have joined efforts to battle the blazes.
