Belize kick off FIFA 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against Nicaragua at FFB Stadium Saturday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize will be kicking off their participation in the FIFA 2026 World Cup Qualifiers on Saturday against Nicaragua at 6:00 pm at the FFB Stadium in capital city Belmopan.

Belize was drawn into Group D and will also be playing against Panama in Belmopan and away to Guyana and Montserrat. 

After Saturday’s game, the Belize Men’s National Team (BMNT) will travel to South America to play Guyana on Tuesday, June 11. The match will kick off at 4:00 pm Belize time (6:00 pm Guyana time) at the Wildey Astro Turf Stadium in Bridgetown.

The games against Panama and Montserrat are scheduled for June 2025. Belize will play away against Montserrat on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 and will then take on Central American powerhouse Panama on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at the FFB Stadium. 

Nicaragua are coming to Belize with three points in the bag as they kicked off their campaign with a 4-1 win over Montserrat on Wednesday in Managua. For their part, Panama got off to a good start blanking Guyana 2-0 on Thursday in Panama City.

Montserrat will host Panama on Sunday ahead of Belize’s away match to Guyana on Tuesday.

Thirty-two Concacaf men’s national teams are competing for three direct berths in FIFA World Cup 2026 and two FIFA Play-off Tournament slots, according to the World Cup draw held on January 25 in Zurich, Switzerland. 

The top two teams from each group will qualify to the third round which will consist of 12 teams divided into three groups. That round will be played in September, October, and November 2025. The three group winners qualify directly to the World Cup along with hosts Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

The two best second place teams from the three third-round groups will qualify to represent Concacaf in the FIFA Play-off Tournament which will include teams from other confederations.

Concacaf could have up to eight teams at the FIFA World Cup if the two who will participate in the FIFA Play-off Tournament qualify.

The following are the six second-round groups:

Group A: Honduras, Antigua and Barbuda, Cuba, Bermuda, Cayman Islands 
Group B: Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Kitts and Nevis, Grenada, Bahamas 
Group C: Haiti, Curaçao, St. Lucia, Barbados, Aruba 
Group D: Panama, Nicaragua, Guyana, Montserrat, Belize 
Group E: Jamaica, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Dominica, Winner Play-off 2 
Group F: El Salvador, Suriname, Puerto Rico, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Winner Play-off 1
