By Breaking Belize News Staff: Kareem Franklin, accused of a 2016 drive-by shooting targeting two police officers, is back behind bars as his trial progresses. The Crown closed their case, and Franklin opened his defense on Friday with a statement denying involvement, despite being identified in video footage of the incident.

The trial, overseen by Justice Candace Nanton at the High Court, continued on Monday. Franklin faces two counts of attempted murder for allegedly firing shots at officers PC Stephen Choco and Joseph Sutherland during a motorcycle chase on March 1, 2016.

Franklin claims he was home at the time of the shooting and plans to call his mother and a female police officer as witnesses. Represented by Attorney Rowell Gonzalez, Franklin’s trial began on May 20, 2024.
