Weather experts monitor 2 disturbances in Atlantic

Posted: Friday, June 14, 2024. 3:46 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Weather experts at the National Hurricane Center are monitoring 2 disturbances in the Atlantic.

AL90 is a low pressure area offshore of the southeastern U.S. coast. It is moving northeastward into the open Atlantic.

This system is expected to merge with a front over the weekend, and the chances of tropical cyclone development are decreasing.

Regardless of development, heavy rainfall is forecast to continue across portions of the Florida peninsula through Saturday.

This system has a 10% chance of formation through the next 7 days.

In the Gulf of Mexico, another area of low pressure is forecast to form over late this weekend or early next week.

Environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development of this system, and a tropical depression could form during the early or middle part of next week while it moves slowly westward or west-northwestward.

This system has a 50% chance of formation through the next 7 days.
